Description

Take a deep dive into pottery making and spend two inspiring days immersed in the world of clay.

Set in my working pottery studio in the historic goldmining town of Rushworth, this hands-on workshop gives you the opportunity to develop your skills, explore new techniques and create your own collection of functional ceramic pieces.

Working with both the pottery wheel and handbuilding techniques, you’ll learn to make everyday favourites such as mugs, bowls and vases. With two full days in the studio, there’s time to go beyond the basics and discover what happens after the initial making.

Learn how to turn, trim and refine your pots, attach handles, and add your own personal touch with painted designs, sgraffito or carved decoration. Through demonstrations, individual guidance and plenty of hands-on practice, I’ll help you build your skills and bring your ideas to life.

Is this workshop for you?

If you’ve had a little experience with clay and have a burning desire to take your pottery skills to the next level, this workshop is for you! Whether you’re keen to master the humble mug, explore the possibilities of a bowl or tackle your first vase, you’ll have the opportunity to experiment, ask questions and discover techniques you can continue to develop in your own practice.

All materials, tools, colourants, firings and personal tuition are included. My aim is to give you the confidence, knowledge and practical experience to make pieces that are uniquely yours.

Two days to slow down, get creative and immerse yourself in clay.

Forget the daily chatter and settle into the rhythm of the pottery studio, surrounded by pots, sculptures, clay and fellow clay enthusiasts. There’s plenty to learn, plenty to experiment with and, hopefully, a few happy surprises along the way!

And you won’t need to break the spell to organise lunch. It’s included in the workshop, along with time to enjoy a coffee and a breather in my shady studio garden, where sculptures nestle among the greenery and birdlife provides its own entertainment.

Make a weekend of it in Rushworth

My studio is tucked into the garden of my home in Rushworth, a small historic goldmining town in Central Victoria. Surrounded by State Forest, the town boasts a remarkable collection of historic buildings and streetscapes, with plenty to explore beyond the studio.

You’re also within easy reach of Lake Waranga, and the Rushworth–Murchison Rail Trail offers opportunities for walking or cycling. Local bed and breakfast accommodation and camping at the nearby Waranga Basin Caravan Park make it easy to turn your pottery experience into a little country getaway.
